Marian Lindberg will talk about recent developments in the effort to preserve Plum Island as well as her book about the groundbreaking trial of its early 20th century military commander.
At the end of 2020, Congress repealed its requirement that Plum Island be sold at public auction. This action marks an important step in the effort to protect the island and its rare habitats and cultural and historical heritage. Lawyer and writer Marian Lindberg, has been working toward this outcome since 2008 as a conservation specialist with The Nature Conservancy and member of the steering committee of the Preserve Plum Island Coalition.
In her webinar, Marian will give a talk about the future of the island, including the possibility of public access, and answer questions. She will also discuss her new book, Scandal on Plum Island: A Commander Becomes the Accused, about Plum Island’s surprising role in early LGBTQ discrimination in the military.
