Jane M. Gohorel

November 1, 1925 – March 5, 2016

Jane M. Gohorel of Stars Road, East Marion died in peace at San Simeon on March 5, 2016 after a short illness. She was 90.

Jane Mary Simpson Gohorel was born to Percival John(Jack) Simpson and Jenny McLean in Rockville Centre, New York on November 1, 1925. She was predeceased by her younger sister Mary Augusta and also her eldest son Christopher Wayne Gohorel who died in October of 2015.

Jane was a superb cook, a dedicated and innovative gardener and a Francophile fluent in French. She spoke Italian and German well, loved music especially Baroque, Bach and Broadway musicals, enjoyed playing her piano and learning the tunes of George Gershwin and Cole Porter. She was active in GAC, the North Fork Environmental Council and was a founding member and first president of the original Brecknock Hall Society. More recently she was involved in the East Marion Community Association.

In the last twenty or more years Jane was all about wild and stray cats. She was very active and worked for SAVES. Jane was a true cat “wrangler” and helped many, many feline creatures to get food, health care and to find their perfect “forever” homes. She loved her raccoons and possums, her families of wild deer and her birds. Being outside by the sea or in the woods with Mother Nature was where she was happiest. Creatures great and small gave her joy. She loved walking and exploring the East End of Long Island for over 40 years.

Left behind is her beloved life companion of 37 years Lili Ann Motta, her son John C. Gohorel and grandchildren, Nicki, Claire and Alex Gohorel. Also bereft are her six kitties: Garbo, Loki, Anthony, Radha, Mooshie and Rose. Jane had a big, beautiful soul that’s free at last. She was smart, funny, good and always kind. She had a generous heart. Janie will be sorely missed, her laughter even more.
