Burr…as I write this letter, the outdoor temperature is holding steady at 10 degrees, so it’s safe to say winter is alive and well on the eastern end of Long Island!
Thankfully, the weather held for us on January 20th for the annual meeting at Paces in Mattituck. With over 30 members in attendance, we welcomed our new board members, Matilde Busana of Southold and Chris P’Simer of Cutchogue. We also provided the membership with our year-end financial report and learned about our ongoing strategic planning efforts and upcoming events. For a copy of the handouts, please click here.
Among the many presenters, was Karen Sauvigné who gave her last grant report as chair of the Grant Committee. Karen has been an integral part of the committee for many years and is stepping down as chair. I’ve worked with Karen over the past few years and saw first hand how she approached each grant request with amazing insight, compassion and thoughtfulness. On behalf of the entire organization, THANK YOU Karen for your time and leadership. Mary Trier who has been on the board and committee since 2018 will now chair the Grant Committee.
Providing health and wellness grants to lesbians on the North Fork is our core mission. It’s comforting to know that our Grant Committee is comprised of women with a deep understanding of healthcare, social services and insurance resources. We are fortunate to have these women volunteer their time and share their collective knowledge to help our community.
We are also fortunate to have our Help Her team at the ready when someone in our community needs assistance. Whether it’s accompanying someone on a doctors appointment or providing assistance to secure a Lifeline service, the women of NFWFWF are just a phone call away. If you want to join the Help Her team or need assistance, please contact us via email.
February is here and the days are getting longer but for some of us winter is a quiet time.
So, if there is a friend you’ve been thinking about or haven’t seen, make that call, send that email and let’s make February warm with friendship!
