Greetings everyone. If you’re like me and counting down the days till spring you may also be reciting the old saying that March has come in like a lion and out like a lamb. Either way, we are truly closer to spring than it may appear and that’s a good thing.
For NFWFWF, March is the month we celebrate the many contributions of one of our members. At the upcoming Founders Award Dinner on March 30th we will honor Margaret Cowden, an amazing woman who has made many contributions to our organization and community.
Margaret first came to the North Fork in 1986 as a weekender. She served on the NFWFWF board from 1994 to 1997, including serving as Board Secretary. She also served our community with her work with the Animal Welfare League. Most of us may know Margaret as the talented Director of the Narrow River Singers for its 20 year history.
Being an ordained Minister, Margrert officiated at many weddings of her lesbian and gay friends on the North Fork. In 2013 she married Chris Larkin, her partner since 1996.
This year’s event will be a different experience than in years past. The space at Martha Clara Vineyard is large with ample seating and a hot buffet. Also, as a special tribute to Margaret, the Narrow River Singers will perform. Tickets to the event can be purchased on our website.
We are fortunate to be among so many amazing women in a loving and caring community. Let’s celebrate our good fortune with Margaret at the Founders Award Dinner later this month and let’s also celebrate each other as we push out winter and welcome Spring!
