Its hard to believe that we are turning the page to November with the leaves falling and winter knocking at the door! After all, it was summer just a short time ago!

Thanksgiving season is upon us and it’s the time of year when we pause to reflect on the year’s accomplishments and more importantly about the people that helped make it happen.

As a volunteer organization, we fully appreciate how valuable everyone’s time is and we are blessed to have so many dedicated members who answer the call, event after event and year after year.

You may not believe this, but we now have 18 events per year. Three of them are “major events” where over 100 people attend and others are smaller events, like our recent Oyster Extravaganza where we enjoyed the company of about 55 people. None of it couldn’t be accomplished without the work of many volunteers, a dedicated board and of course our wonderful program manger Barb Pfanz.

Our monthly casual meet-ups, fondly called First Friday’s Friends started two years ago and has steadily grown into a popular night out. Each FFF takes place at a different location and we have been welcomed at each venue and usually with an invitation to return! Our November FFF meet up will be held at on Friday, November 1 at noah’s restaurant, 136 Front Street in Greenport. Please stop by and say ‘Hi!” We are grateful to receive support and encouragement for the work we do. Our presence in the community is being noticed and our mission is spreading to those we meet and for that we grateful.

Our newest event was held last Saturday at the Hellenic in East Marion. It was our Second Annual Breast Cancer Survivor and Supporter Breakfast. Like last year, our breakfast was filled with personal stories shared, new information learned, encouragement provided and friendships formed. It will be an annual event and for that I am grateful.

In closing, thank you for ongoing support. Whether it was attending one of our events, being an event or help-her volunteer or simply telling a friend about our organization. It all matters and it’s all appreciated. If it wasn’t for your support we wouldn’t be able to live our mission of providing healthcare grants to lesbians on the Northfork.

I wish you all a very happy and a healthy holiday season and I hope to see you all soon!
