On Saturday, March 25, 2023, 2-4 p.m., North Fork Women will host Get Lit. The book launch for novelist Melanie Mitzner and poet Elaine Sexton will also feature works-in-progress by memoirist/producer Roma Baran and playwright/author Elizabeth Primamore. Book signings by Mitzner and Sexton will follow the readings.

  • Baran will read from her memoir written after she discovered her deceased Catholic parents, who barely survived the Holocaust, took the secret of their Judaism to the grave in What I Write to the Dead.
  • Mitzner’s Slow Reveal, published by Inanna Publications, York University, Toronto, is set in New York and the North Fork. The novel explores the relationship between the creative process and building intimacy and trust in love through a nuclear and chosen family of artists who defy the arbiters of culture and challenge social norms.
  • Primamore will read an excerpt of narrative non-fiction from her work in process Daring Lives, Crucial Art: Five Women Writers in the 1950s, who came to New York to become writers, became friends, and despite the odds, were successful.
  • Sexton will read from Drive, poems that explore fragile points of connections to lovers and family, to the living and the dead, and to oneself, one’s own life’s work.
