DECEMBER 2020 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Dear North Fork Women,

President Chris P'Simer

President Chris P’Simer

As we end the month of December, closing out 2020, we are encouraged by the Covid vaccine and the work that has been done to get it out to healthcare workers. Obviously we are not sure when it will be available to everyone, but the Board and I are assuming that 2021 will be a much, much better year.

Two of our members have decided to leave the Board at the end of 2020. Marj Snyder has served on the board for six years and served in a leadership role for three of those years a President Elect, President and Past President. Marj was instrumental in bringing strategic planning to our organization and worked with the Board to establish action plans that will guide our organization for years to come. We will miss her insight, her knowledge and her initiative.

Mary Trier will also leave the Board at the end of this year. Mary has chaired the grant committee for the last few years and has been our get up and go member. She was responsible for the 2019 Founders Award ceremony and worked diligently to make the Founders dinner, the entertainment and the gift card raffle, a tremendous success as we honored Margaret Cowden. In addition, Mary has been our Summer Auction raffle ticket MVP for the last three years, selling 72 raffles at $100 each in 2020. I don’t know what we will do without her.

Please join me in thanking Mary and Marj for their exceptional work as members of the North Fork Women Board. With these resignations, we are now looking for new members to join our team. If you are interested in helping plan future activities and the future of North Fork Women, I would encourage you to contact me or any board member to express interest in being part of the leadership of this great organization.

At our last board meeting we discussed the 2021 budget and expressed hope that we might be able to have some gatherings during the next year. We’ll have to see how that works out, but we will move into budget development with an open and optimistic eye. And, of course will keep you informed as we go.

Speaking of next year, we will hold our annual meeting on January 30 at 4 PM via zoom. The annual meeting gives us the opportunity to discuss our 2020 successes, talk to you about our action plans and upcoming possible activities, and take time to review the North Fork Women budget for 2021. We hope many of you will be able to join us.

Before I close, I would like to remind everyone that we are in the midst of our annual appeal. If you’ve already contributed, thank you so very, very much. If you haven’t, there is still time to do it. A donation in any amount will help our organization work toward a safe, active and healthy community for our members. So please give what you can and know that we will use your donation to alleviate stress and hardship for some of our members through grants, HelpHer services and other programs that support our lesbian community.

Thank you so much for being part of North Fork Women. I wish you a happy and healthy new year and am looking forward to getting together later in 2021. I miss you all.

Sincerely,

Chris P’Simer
